The Uphill Slide

There is always something.

Lucky or Unlucky?

I stopped to survey the shattered back window of a car parked along a side street off Friendship Avenue. The fallen tree limb lay guiltily across the sidewalk and car trunk. I was grateful that this wasn’t my car. A young man in blue scrubs came around the fence just as I was walking past the damage. I said, “I hope that isn’t your car.”

“No, mine is the one parked behind it. I’m a student here and heard the crash yesterday. My friend looked out and said it was lucky it wasn’t mine. The young man laughed and said, “I told him it was unlucky it wasn’t mine.  That tree with its fallen limb belong to West Penn Hospital, so they will have to pay for that damage.”

“I guess that is one way to look at it,” I answered.

There are always at least two ways to look at most things. Still, I was glad it wasn’t my car.
